David Gilmour included a group of former prison inmates called The Liberty Choir on his upcoming solo LP called Rattle That Lock.

The choir works with prisoners at Wandsworth prison where Gilmour's son Charlie served four months after being convicted of violent disorder for his part in a 2010 protest.

"We're just helping out by being part of this initiative, which will hopefully spread," Gilmour told the BBC.

"Charlie's experience was something that has impacted on us and has made us more aware of the prison system and what could and should be done to improve it."

He added that his conversations with the participating inmates leads him to believe the choir program is rehabilitive.

Rattle That Lock lands on September 18.
