Indonesia's consumer price inflation slowed unexpectedly in August, figures from the Central Statistical Agency showed Tuesday.
The consumer price index rose 7.18 percent year-over-year in August, slower than July's 7.26 percent climb. Economists had expected the inflation to accelerate to 7.37 percent.
Food prices grew 9.26 percent annually in August and utility costs increased by 6.38 percent. Similarly, costs for transportation, communication and financial services surged 8.17 percent.
Month-on-month, consumer prices went up 0.39 percent in August, but slower than previous month's 0.93 percent rise.
Core consumer prices, which excludes food and fuel, climbed 4.92 percent in August from a year ago and increased 0.52 percent from the preceding month.
