Eurozone retail sales dropped unexpectedly in October due to a fall in food sales, data from Eurostat revealed Thursday.
Retail sales fell 0.1 percent in October from previous month, the same rate of decline as seen in September. Sales were expected to grow 0.2 percent.
Sales of food, drinks, tobacco decreased 0.5 percent from September, while non-food product sales gained 0.1 percent.
On a yearly basis, retail sales advanced 2.5 percent, but slower than the 2.9 percent growth registered a month ago and the expected growth of 2.6 percent.
In the EU28, retail trade remained flat in October compared to September and increased 3.1 percent from last year.
