Japan Consumer Confidence At 2-Year High

Japan's consumer confidence strengthened more-than-expected in November to the strongest level in two years, survey data from the Cabinet Office showed Friday.

The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index rose to 42.6 in November from 41.5 in the previous month. Economists had expected the index to increase slightly to 41.7.

The latest reading was the highest since November 2013, when it marked 43.0.

The survey was conducted on November 15 among 8,400 households and the response rate was 66.3 percent.

All sub-components of consumer confidence climbed from previous month. The overall livelihood index climbed to 40.9 in November from 39.6 in October. Similarly, the index measuring income growth increased to 41.0 from 40.0.

The component index of employment rose by 0.8 points to 46.7 in November. The index for willingness to buy durable goods improved to 41.6 from 40.3.
