Germany's producer prices declined more than expected in March, figures from Destatis revealed Wednesday.
Producer prices declined 3.1 percent year-on-year in March, faster than February's 3 percent drop and the expected 2.9 percent decrease.
This was the biggest fall since January 2010, when prices fell 3.5 percent. Producer prices have been falling since August 2013.
Excluding energy, producer prices fell only 0.9 percent from last year. Energy prices logged an annual fall of 9.2 percent.
Prices of intermediate goods slid 2.3 percent and that of non-durable consumer goods by 0.3 percent. In contrast, prices of capital goods rose 0.6 percent and prices of durable consumer goods by 1.4 percent.
On a monthly basis, producer prices remained unchanged in March versus a 0.5 percent fall in February. Economists had forecast a 0.2 percent rise in March.
