Australia Building Approvals Dip 1.8% In August

The total number of building permits issues in Australia was down a seasonally adjusted 1.8 percent on month in August, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday - coming in at 20,788.

That beat forecasts for a decline of 6.0 percent following the upwardly revised 12.0 percent spike in July (originally 11.3 percent).

On a yearly basis, building permits jumped 10.1 percent - also topping expectations for 5.1 percent following the upwardly revised 4.2 percent gain in the previous month (originally 3.1 percent).

The value of new residential building approvals was up 1.0 percent, rising for the ninth straight month.
