Legendary guitarist and rock & roll pioneer Chuck Berry has passed away at the age of 90. He was pronounced dead this afternoon (Saturday, March 18). The St. Charles County Police Department responded to the scene and confirmed Berry's death on Facebook. The post read:

"Inside the home, first responders observed an unresponsive man and immediately administered lifesaving techniques. Unfortunately, the 90-year-old man could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at 1:26 p.m."

"The St. Charles County Police Department sadly confirms the death of Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr., better known as legendary musician Chuck Berry."

"The family requests privacy during this time of bereavement."

Berry's cause of death is currently unknown. However, his son revealed to Rolling Stone that Berry had recently suffered a bout of pneumonia.

Berry had numerous hits over his long career, but is best known for his song "Johnny B. Goode." He was amongst the very first artists to be inducted into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame.

Berry had announced back on his ninetieth birthday that he was planning to release his first album in close to forty years. The new album, which was to be titled Chuck, was expected to be released sometime in 2017.
