Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange owned by Internet entrepreneur twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, has appointed former NYSE Chief Information Officer Robert Cornish as the company's first-ever Chief Technology Officer.

Cornish will be assigned the task of bridging the gap between cryptocurrency and finance as part of Gemini's larger mission to "build the future of money." He will oversee the technology team, architecture, and strategy for the digital asset exchange and custodian service.

Gemini recently became the first licensed Zcash exchange in the world after gaining approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) to offer trading and custody services for Zcash.

The NYDFS also approved Gemini to offer Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin for trading and custody.

Cornish will also oversee the deployment of Nasdaq's SMARTS Market Surveillance technology, which it started implementation in late April.

Cornish had previously held the positions of Chief Information Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, and Chief Technology Officer of the International Securities Exchange.
