The Miami International Airport got its first Bitcoin ATM that was installed by Miami-based Bitcoin technology startup Bitstop on Tuesday.

The automated teller machine (ATM) installed at the third-busiest airport in the U.S., in terms of international passenger traffic, will enable customers to conveniently exchange their dollars for Bitcoin and vice versa while on domestic or international travel.

The ATM is located in concourse G next to gate 16.

For Bitstop, claimed to be the first and largest Bitcoin ATM operator in Florida, the installation is at a strategic location as the airport is one of the largest airline hubs in the U.S. and the largest gateway between the U. S. and Latin America.

Apart from people preferring to travel with Bitcoin instead of cash for convenience and security, it will also help them to exchange the leftover dollars for cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum in a faster way.

The Bitcoin ATM at the Miami International Airport is Bitstop's 40th installation over the last two months and brings its total Bitcoin ATM count across the U.S. to 130 machines. As the demand for Bitcoin ATMs is surging, Bitstop said it is on pace to reach 500 Bitcoin ATM installation globally by the end of 2020.

Automated kiosks for buying bitcoin are becoming increasingly popular in the U.S. More than half of the world's Bitcoin ATMs are installed in the United States.

There are a total of 3710 Bitcoin ATMs currently installed in United States out of a total of 5756 Bitcoin ATMs installed globally, according to data from Coin ATM Radar.

In July, Bitcoin ATM operator LibertyX entered into a deal with traditional ATM operator Desert ATM to convert cash-dispensing ATM machines into those dispensing cryptocurrencies as well. LibertyX will load its software on 90 Desert ATMs, specifically the ones manufactured by Genmega, in Arizona and Nevada. The ATMs will also continue to dispense cash.
