Sam Smith dropped a surprise cover of Donna Summer's 1977 disco pop classic "I Feel Love" on Friday.

The song is a follow-up to Smith's "How Do You Sleep?" and the smash Normani collaboration "Dancing With a Stranger."

Smith talked about the track on Twitter, tweeting, "As a queer person 'I feel love' has followed me to every dance floor in every queer space from the minute I started clubbing.

"This song to me is an anthem of our community and it was an honor and most importantly so much fun to have a go at it," the English singer and songwriter added.

One of the all-time great pop songs, "I Feel Love" peaked at No. 2 in the United States 42 years ago.

Smith's version of the Summer hit will be featured in an upcoming Target Christmas ad campaign.

The song was produced by Disclosure's Guy Lawrence, who recreates the original beat as closely as possible.
