Halsey has apologized for posting an eating disorder photo on social media without giving sufficient warning that it may trigger some fans.

As part of a viral Instagram campaign, Halsey was asked by her followers to post a photo of herself at her "lowest point."

Halsey shared a now-deleted mirror selfie that shows her struggle with an eating disorder. She captioned the photo, "TW: ED, ask for help."

"TW" is an abbreviation for "Trigger Warning" and "ED" is the short form for "Eating Disorder."

Halsey later removed the image with an apology, saying, "I am very sorry for posting a photo of myself depicting my struggle with ED without a sufficient trigger warning."

"I was very nervous to post it and didn't think properly. I had positive intentions. I would never want to harm someone who shares my struggle," she added.

The embarrassing experience prompted the singer to say that she would be taking a temporary break from social media.

"With that being said im gonna log off now because this has turned into something I am not emotionally equipped to handle for the time being. I hope that's okay," she tweeted.
