Metallica played "Battery" on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the band's classic album Master of Puppets.
"So much fun to be back on the @colbertlateshow again celebrating 35 years of Master of Puppets, firing up Battery, and dusting off the old wrinkled backdrop… Actually, considering what craziness it's been exposed to over its lifetime, it's in remarkably good shape..(the backdrop that is!!)," drummer Lars Ulrich joked on Instagram.

Introducing the performance, Colbert noted that the LP Master Of Puppets "had such an impact that it was added to the National Recording Registry in the Library of Congress."
Master of Puppets, the heavy metal band's third studio album, was released on March 3, 1986. It was the band's last album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a bus accident in Sweden during the album's promotional tour.
Master of Puppets peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 and received widespread acclaim from critics, who praised its music and political lyrics. It is widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal albums of all time.
In 2015, Master of Puppets became the first metal recording to be selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
