John Legend joined a number of celebrities who have spoken out against rising anti-Asian violence in the U.S. after eight people, including six women of Asian origin, were killed in a shooting spree at three massage parlors in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday.

The prime suspect, 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long of Woodstock, Georgia, was arrested and charged with murder.

"Our nation needs to reckon with the increased threats being directed at our Asian-American brothers and sisters," Legend wrote on Twitter.

Calling the attack "absolutely horrible," Legend said he is "Sending love to all the loved ones of those whose lives were taken."

Singer/songwriter and actor Lana Condor tweeted, "Wake up… your Asian friends and family are deeply scared, horrified, sick to their stomachs and wildly angry."

"These things happen when people have rage and entitlement, and when they prey on the weak. I really don't want to cry right now, because I do not want to perpetuate the idea that Asian women are weak, because we're not," actress Ashley Park said in an Instagram video.
