On Friday, Lil Nas X shared the highly anticipated music video for "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)"

The video, co-directed by Lil Nas and Tanu Muino, takes viewers to the Garden of Eden, ancient Greece and the fiery depths of hell, where the rapper dances with the devil.

Lil Nas said in a statement that he tells "his own personal story of temptation, judgment and standing in the full power of his sexuality."

In the statement, the 21 year-old singer-songwriter also posted an open letter to his 14-year-old self.

"I wrote a song with our name in it. It's about a guy I met last summer. I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be 'that' type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist," he wrote.
