Republican lawmakers in the Tennessee House of Representatives have blocked a resolution to honor openly gay country music star T.J. Osborne.
The resolution, already passed in the Senate, honors the lead singer of Brothers Osborne for his contributions to the state and his courage in coming out as the first openly gay country musician in February.
Rep. Jeremy Faison blocked the resolution, citing a procedural objection. Faison, who is the chair of the House Republican Caucus, introduced a motion recommending that the measure be sent back to committee.
In a Twitter post, The Brothers Osborne invited Faison to have lunch with the country music duo and get to know one another.
"We've lived in this state for over half of our lives. @JeremyFaison4TN honored Ben Shapiro who doesn't even live here," the duo said, referring to a similar resolution passed by the Tennessee House in the current session in favor of the conservative commentator.
"Jeremy, let's have lunch one day. On us. Would really like to know more about you as a person," they tweeted.
Country singer Kacey Musgraves said she is "massively disappointed" by Tennessee House Republicans blocking her friend T.J. Osborne from being honored because he is gay.
