Walt Disney Studios, the motion picture arm of entertainment and media conglomerate Walt Disney Co. (DIS), said Monday that it has entered into collaboration with India's Yash Raj Films Studios to produce a series of original and exclusive computer-animated feature films in India.This is the first time both the companies are collaborating for a co-production, Walt Disney Studios claimed.Both companies will be equal partners in the venture, providing creative, technical and financial support to the project. Yash Raj Films' Aditya Chopra will creatively oversee each film under the alliance.The partnership's first film will be Roadside Romeo, set for release in 2008. The film will be produced by Aditya Chopra and, written and directed by Jugal Hansraj, using state-of-the-art computer animation technology done entirely in India.Yash Raj Films and YRF Studios have been at the forefront in live-action feature films for almost four decades. Yash Chopra, chairman of Yash Raj Films Studios, and his son Aditya Chopra are among the successful filmmakers in India.Dick Cook, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, commented, "We're thrilled and honored to be working with Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra and their talented team at YRF Studios to create exceptional animated films in the Indian language that are culturally relevant for the avid movie-going audiences in India and around the world.Yash Raj Films started out as a film-making company in 1970. The audio wing houses the most advanced audio and video recording and post-production facilities.Started in 1939,Walt Disney Studios is today one of the world's largest film production businesses. Its live-action titles, including National Treasure and Herbie: Fully Loaded are produced and distributed through the Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone, and Hollywood banners. Miramax Film Corp. acquires, produces, and distributes independent movies, and Disney Studios co-finances and distributes animated movies made by Pixar, which Disney bought in 2006. The firm also runs Walt Disney Feature Animation. Disney Studios' other divisions are devoted to home entertainment, music, and live stage plays. Disney shares, which are trading in the range of $28.15 to $36.79 over the last year, closed Monday's regular trading session at $34.18, down 2 cents.
