Billie Eilish wore an Oscar de la Renta gown for the Met Gala on Monday (September 13) on condition that the designer should stop selling fur.

It was the first appearance at the legendary fashion event for Eilish, who has been vegan for seven years and is a vocal animal rights activist. She convinced the Oscar de la Renta brand to go completely fur-free and said she's happy to be a catalyst for change in the fashion industry.

"Thank you @oscardelarenta for designing this BEAUTIFUL dress and bringing my ideas and vision to life. it was an honor to wear this dress knowing that going forward oscar de la renta will be completely fur-free!!!!" Eilish wrote on Instagram after the Met Gala red carpet.

"i am beyond thrilled that @fernandogarciam1205 and @tokibunbun and the entire team heard me on this issue, and have now made a change that makes an impact for the greater good, not only for animals but also for our planet and environment too," she continued. "i'm honored to have been a catalyst and to have been heard on this matter. i urge all designers to do the same."

"I thought a lot about what [late founding designer] Oscar [de la Renta] said — he was a big fan of fur, by the way — that the one thing he really worried about in the fashion business was his eye getting old," said the brand's Chief Executive Officer Alex Bolen. "I have to surround myself with people with different points of view."
