European Economics Preview: Bank Of England Monetary Policy Decision Due

The Bank of England is set to announce its interest rate decision on Thursday. Some economists are expecting a hike after the governor recently commented that the bank will have to act on inflation, which currently stands at 3.1 percent.

Others are looking forward to a raise only in December. The bank is also expected to retain the size of the total quantitative easing at GBP 895 billion. The BoE publishes its quarterly economic analysis and inflation projections along with the monetary policy statement.

The European Central Bank became the first major central bank to move in response to the rising inflationary pressures in the backdrop of the conflict in the Middle East. In North America, the U.S. inflation and trade data as well as Canada’s central bank decision gained attention. The Chinese trade data was the main news in Asia.
