Marcus Mumford revealed in a recent interview that his debut solo single, "Cannibal," deals with his childhood experience with sexual abuse.

The lyrics of Mumford's debut solo single, released last month, begin with, "I can still taste you and I hate it/That wasn't a choice in the mind of a child and you knew it."

"Like lots of people - and I'm learning more and more about this as we go and as I play it to people - I was sexually abused as a child," the singer-songwriter said in an interview with GQ.

"Not by family and not in the church, which might be some people's assumption. But I hadn't told anyone about it for 30 years," the Mumford & Sons frontman added about the experience he encountered at the age of six.

Mumford told GQ's Zach Baron that "Grace," the second single from his upcoming album, was inspired by a conversation with his mother on the subject.

Mumford's debut solo album, (Self-Titled), is scheduled to be released on September 16 via Island.
