Grammy-nominated R&B and soul singer-songwriter Jesse Powell, known for his 1998 hit song "You," died at 51 at his Los Angeles home.

He was the older brother of fellow contemporary R&B singers Trina and Tamara.

"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell," Tamara wrote on Instagram on behalf of the Powell family. "The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn this tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy."

"Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you meant the world to him," she added.

She did not disclose when the 51 year old artist died.

In another post on the social media, featuring a photo of Jesse performing, Tamara wrote, "Aside from being one of the best R&B male vocalists out there, you were the best big brother ever. I loved you so much. I'm thankful that we were so close; a whole mess all the time."

"You," which peaked at No. 2 the R&B charts and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, was streamed nearly 13 million times on Spotify.

Credited with a four octave vocal range, Powell released four albums.
