Ed Sheeran Announces New Single 'Eyes Closed'

Ed Sheeran took to social media last week to announce that he will release a new single, "Eyes Closed," on March 24.

Sheeran teased his new music on Wednesday (March 8) by posting a melody to his TikTok and sharing some written song lyrics on his Instagram. He then combined the two on Thursday morning to announce the single.

The song will be the first track from Sheeran's upcoming album, Substract, due out on May 5.

"Time is moving so slow and I don't know what else that I can do," Sheeran wrote on Instagram. He added, "I'm dancing with my eyes closed, everywhere I look I still see you."

Sheeran previously mentioned the album through a diary entry last year. He wrote about his spouse having to delay getting treatment for a tumor because she was pregnant with the couple's daughter, Jupiter, who they secretly welcomed into the world in May 2022. He admitted writing the record acted as therapy for him through the extremely dark period in his life, which also saw his late friend Jamal Edwards pass away suddenly and his mental health spiral.

In the candid statement, he said, "I had been working on 'Subtract' for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be."
