A U.S. Federal Court Judge has dismissed a copyright lawsuit filed against Childish Gambino over his song "This Is America."
U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero officially dismissed the copyright infringement lawsuit filed in 2021 against Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino over his 2018 hit.
Kidd Wes, whose real name is Emelike Wesley Nwosuocha, had filed the lawsuit claiming that Glover's song infringed on his own 2016 song "Made in America."
According to Billboard, Judge Marrero ruled that "[a] cursory comparison with the challenged composition reveals that the content of the choruses is entirely different and not substantially similar."
Marrero also noted that the lyrics of Kidd Wes were a "short, simple, self-aggrandizing proclamation" while "This Is America" touched on "what America means and how it is perceived."
