The Weeknd has teamed with Madonna and Playboi Carti for the new single, "Popular."
The single arrived a couple of days ahead of the premiere of the Sam Lavinson-directed "The Idol" series. The HBO series premiered on Sunday (June 4). The Idol Vol. 1 soundtrack is due out on June 30th.
"Popular" marks the first time the Weeknd has worked with Madonna and Carti and marks both Madonna and Carti's first musical releases of 2023.
In May, the Weeknd teased "Popular" by posted a photo of Madonna on his Instagram account with a burning heart emoji. He then teased the song while walking alongside his "Idol" castmates — including Lily-Rose Depp, BLACKPINK's Jennie, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney and more — on the red carpet at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
The Weeknd subsequently confirmed that he and Carti had collaborated by posting a screenshot of their FaceTime call on Twitter.
