Cage The Elephant's Matt Shultz has pleaded guilty to charges of weapon possession after police found two loaded guns in his New York City hotel room in January.
Cops arrested Shultz on January 5 after an employee at the Bowery Hotel on Manhattan's Lower East Side reported that they saw the singer carrying a handgun into a public restroom on the ground floor.
The police obtained a search warrant and found two loaded guns, a Sig Sauer and a Smith & Wesson in Shultz's room.
According to the New York Post, Shultz has now accepted a plea deal in court, telling Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Cori Weston that he's guilty on all three charges, namely attempted criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The judge reportedly said Shultz has to attend all his court dates and "stay out of trouble for one year." This will help wipe his slate clean of the two felony counts and limit the sentence to "one-year conditional release for a misdemeanor charge."
In the event of Shultz breaking the deal, he could end up in prison for seven years, according to the newspaper.
"Mr. Shultz has worked hard to put this isolated episode behind him and is appreciative of the opportunity to move forward in a positive manner," Schultz's lawyer Sanford Talkin said in a statement to People.
