Talking Heads recently shared "Cities" as a preview of the deluxe edition of the Stop Making Sense soundtrack.
Stop Making Sense is a concert film of Talking Heads' three-night Hollywood residency, which was shot by director Jonathan Demme. The movie is set to get a theatrical re-release later this year with a 4K restoration. The band will also drop an expanded reissue of the soundtrack on August 18.
"Cities" is one of two previously uncirculated tracks set for inclusion on the deluxe 2LP along with "Big Business / I Zimbra." Until now, the songs were only available on the 1999 VHS/DVD release of Stop Making Sense.
"We had done a live album before this, but coupled with the film, and with the improved mixes and sound quality, this record reached a whole new audience. As often happens, the songs got an added energy when we performed them live and were inspired by having an audience. In many ways, these versions are more exciting than the studio recordings, so maybe that's why a lot of folks discovered us via this record," David Byrne said.
