Al Green recently released a cover of Lou Reed's 1972 classic "Perfect Day," his first new single in five years. The song is out digitally on Fat Possum Records.
Green reunited with members of the Hi Rhythm Section at Memphis' Sam Phillips Recording studio in February to record the "Perfect Day" cover.
The new version features background vocals from U.K. alt-R&B artist RAYE.
"I loved Lou's original 'Perfect Day,'" Green said in a statement. "The song immediately puts you in a good mood. We wanted to preserve that spirit, while adding our own sauce and style."
"Perfect Day" was originally produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson. The song featured on the album Transformer.
Green's previous release was his cover version of Freddy Fender's "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" in 2018.
