Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan's cause of death has been revealed.
MacGowan died due to complications of viral encephalitis and pneumonia, according to his wife Victoria Mary Clarke.
Clarke revealed the news to the New York Times days after her husband's death.
MacGowan's funeral will take place on Friday at St. Mary of the Rosary Church in Dublin.
The cortege will leave Nenagh in MacGowan's home county of Tipperary in the morning.
It will be open to the public.
Irish President Michael Higgins will attend the funeral, reports say.
Shane MacGowan, 65, died last Thursday following a recent hospital stay after being diagnosed with encephalitis.
MacGowan, who had been struggling with drugs and alcohol abuse, was diagnosed with viral encephalitis in 2022 and was hospitalized.
He co-founded the Anglo-Irish band blending traditional Irish folk music with punk sounds in 1982.
"Fairytale of New York," featuring McGowan and Kirsty MacColl, is considered as The Pogues' greatest hit.
