Acute pancreatitis, or AP, refers to acute inflammation of the pancreas that presents as severe upper abdominal pain, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Hypertriglyceridemia, gallstones, certain medications and alcohol use are some of the common causes of acute pancreatitis. There are no approved therapeutics for AP.
