Graves' disease is the leading cause of an overactive thyroid, known as hyperthyroidism. This condition occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland, causing it to produce excessive amounts of thyroid hormones. The disorder bears the name of Robert James Graves, an Irish doctor who first described it in the 1830s. Beta-blockers, Anti-thyroid medications, Radioactive iodine treatments, and Surgery are some of the treatment options for Graves' disease.
