Markets Wait For U.S. PPI Update

World markets digested the mixed economic data from the U.S. on Thursday that showed a lesser-than-expected softening in inflation and a higher-than-expected increase in the number of individuals filing for unemployment benefits. All eyes are now on the producer price inflation data as well as the onset of the earnings season. The headline producer price inflation is seen edging down to 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent in August.

According to the CME Group's FedWatch Tool that tracks the expectations of interest rate traders, the likelihood of a quarter-point cut in the next Fed review in November has decreased to 82.4 percent from 83.3 percent a day earlier.

Wall Street Futures have edged down. European benchmarks are trading slightly above the flatline. Major benchmarks in Asia closed on a mixed note.

Dollar Index is trading flat. Bond yields hardened across regions. Crude oil prices eased despite anxiety about the situation in the Middle East. Gold prices extended gains amidst mixed economic data from the U.S. Cryptocurrencies gained.

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to raise concerns for policymakers who worry about the impact of the supply shock and high energy prices on the real economy. Producer price data and various survey results on the housing market were the main news from the U.S. this week. In Europe, industrial production data for the euro area gained attention.
