Sagimet Gets Investors' Attention Ahead Of Planned Registrational MASH Trial

Sagimet Biosciences Inc. (SGMT) has an important upcoming event this month concerning its lead investigational asset, Denifanstat.

Denifanstat is an oral, once-daily pill and selective FASN inhibitor, which successfully completed a phase IIb trial in biopsy-confirmed Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) patients with moderate-to-severe fibrosis in January of this year.

MASH, formerly known as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), is a primary factor behind liver-related fatalities and represents a growing strain on healthcare systems worldwide. In March of this year, the FDA granted accelerated approval to Madrigal Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s (MDGL) Rezdiffra, making it the first and sole medication approved by the FDA for MASH treatment.

Major central banks continued to dominate the economic news flow this week too, led by the Federal Reserve, as they announced their latest policy decisions. The Federal Reserve policy session was in focus as it was the first to be led by the new chief Kevin Warsh. In Europe, central banks of the U.K. and Switzerland announced their rate decisions. In Asia, the Bank of Japan drew attention for its policy moves, while data out of China threw some light on the state of the economy.
