Aethlon Medical Inc. (AEMD), a medical device company, announced on Wednesday, that it has reached a milestone in its Australian safety, feasibility, and dose-finding clinical trial of Hemopurifier.

The Aethlon Hemopurifier is an investigational medical device developed to filter out enveloped viruses and tumor-derived extracellular vesicles from the bloodstream. It is an extracorporeal device that works in conjunction with a blood pump.

Preclinical studies have shown that the Hemopurifier can reduce extracellular vesicles concentrations, which are linked to cancer spread and resistance to therapies.

The company noted that the first patient who was enrolled in the trial on October 29, 2024, at the Cancer Clinical Trials Unit, CALHN, Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia, was treated with the Hemopurifer on January 29, 2025.

The patient, enrolled at Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia, had progressive disease after a two-month run-in with Opdivo. The extracellular vesicles (EVs) and anti-tumor T cell activity were monitored regularly for the patient.

As part of the treatment, the patient received a 4-hour session with the Aethlon Hemopurifier on a single day and tolerated the procedure without any complications, noted the company.

The primary goal of the trial is to examine the incidence of adverse events and evaluate the impact of the Hemopurifier on tumor-derived extracellular vesicles or EVs and T-cell activity.

This trial is a critical step in Aethlon's effort to develop the Hemopurifier as a potential adjunct treatment for cancer, with future plans to design a larger efficacy trial based on the results of this safety study.

AEMD closed Tuesday's (Jan.28 2025) trading at $0.62 down by 1.27%. In premarket trading Wednesday, the stock is up 9.15% at $0.68.
