Sealed Air Corp. (SEE) revealed a profit for its first quarter that increased from last year and beat the Street estimates.
The company's earnings came in at $113.5 million, or $0.77 per share. This compares with $82.0 million, or $0.56 per share, last year.
Excluding items, Sealed Air Corp. reported adjusted earnings of $119.5 million or $0.81 per share for the period.
Analysts on average had expected the company to earn $0.67 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
The company's revenue for the period fell 4.3% to $1.272 billion from $1.329 billion last year.

The Federal Reserve policy session was in focus as it was the first to be led by the new chief Kevin Warsh. In Europe, central banks of the U.K. and Switzerland announced their rate decisions.
