Eurodance icon Haddaway is the latest artist to join Spotify's Billions Club, with his 1993 hit "What Is Love" surpassing 1 billion streams.
The success was propelled by a U.S.-focused digital campaign for the newly remastered version and the new Dolby Atmos Mix of "What Is Love." A re-release of the physical EP is scheduled for June 13.
The infectious song was released as the debut single from the Trinidadian-German singer's debut album, The Album, in 1993.
"What Is Love" achieved international success upon its release, topping charts worldwide and becoming a staple of dance floors and pop culture. The song reached No. 1 in 13 countries and hit No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The track sold 2.6 million copies upon release, receiving four Platinum and seven Gold awards.
Its distinctive melody and memorable lyrics have made it a beloved classic, continuing to resonate with audiences today. The song's enduring appeal has also led to its sampling in other hit songs, most notably Eminem's "No Love" featuring Lil Wayne, which uses a sample of "What Is Love" in the chorus.
