Webstep ASA (WSTEP.OL) on Thursday said that its second-quarter profit rose 5.3 percent from last year, helped by lower operating expenses. The company's revenues, however, fell due to reduced utilization hours.

The technology and consulting company reported profit of 14.8 million Norwegian Kroner or 0.57 Kroner per share in the second quarter, higher than 14.1 million Kroner or 0.51 Kroner per share in the same period last year.

During the three-month period, revenues declined 6.3 percent to 215.0 million Kroner from 229.5 million Kroner in the year-ago quarter, impacted by a decline in utilisation and reduced number of consultants.

According to Webstep, EBITDA for the second quarter fell to 23.3 million Kroner from 23.7 million Kroner in the prior-year period. EBITDA margin, however, climbed to 10.9 percent from 10.3 percent last year.

Looking ahead, the company reaffirmed its long-term goal of generating an EBIT margin of more than 10 percent.
