There are said to be roughly 18,500 recognized diseases worldwide - yet only about 4,000 have FDA-approved treatments, according to Every Cure, an AI-powered nonprofit biotech organization. Frontotemporal dementia, a rapidly progressive form of dementia, is one such disease with no approved treatment.
It is estimated that about 50,000 to 60,000 people in the U.S. and approximately 110,000 people in the EU have Frontotemporal dementia (FTD). This rare neurodegenerative disease strikes people between the ages of 45 and 64 and is often characterized by behavioural changes, lapses in judgment, and diminished language skills.
