Director/writer Rick Korn, editor/producer S.A. Baron, and producer Jason Chapin have announced their award-winning documentary, Harry Chapin - Cat's In the Cradle: The Song that Changed Our Lives, will be available on DVD and digital streaming service beginning November 4.
The new feature documentary celebrates the 50th anniversary of Harry Chapin and Sandy Chapin's iconic No. 1 song "Cat's in The Cradle," and explores the folk rock tune's lasting impact on music and culture decades later.
Reflecting on the song's universal themes of parenthood, time, and relationships are legendary musicians Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Judy Collins, Dee Snider, Darryl McDaniels, Mandy Patinkin, Robert Lamm, Whitfield Crane, Jimmy Vivino and Mark Barden, among others. The documentary's New York City premiere has also been announced, with film set to screen with Tribeca Film on October 30. Tickets are available for Tribeca members here.
There will also be a special screening at the Cinema Arts Centre in Harry's hometown of Huntington, LI, on November 1. The event supports Long Island Cares and the Cinema Arts Centre of Huntington. Tickets are now available here.
"What makes this song so amazing is the multi-generational and multi-cultural effect it has on people around the world even to this day," Korn said. "However what makes this song and film unique is that it gave Harry a platform to launch his hunger charities like WhyHunger. 50 years later, WhyHunger is helping millions of people in 24 countries around the globe at a very crucial time in world history."
Producer Jason Chapin added, "My father wrote many unforgettable story songs but "Cat's in the Cradle" is by far his best known and it continues to have an impact on millions of people around the world. I'm thrilled at how the film captures so many wonderful stories about the song and my father told by music legends, fans, family and others."
Rhino is also now introducing Harry Chapin's Now Playing, available for pre-order here. The tracklist highlights Chapin's mix of storytelling ballads and lighter narratives, including "Cat's in the Cradle."
