Dermata Therapeutics To Launch First OTC Acne Kit In Mid-2026

Dermata Therapeutics Inc. (DRMA), a medical dermatology company, is approaching a key milestone that could mark the beginning of a new growth chapter.

The company is planning to launch its first over-the-counter (OTC) dermatology product, a once-weekly acne kit powered by its proprietary Spongilla technology, in the middle of 2026.

Spongilla technology is derived from a freshwater sponge that produces a network of microscopic spicules. When applied topically, these spicules penetrate the skin to deliver active ingredients, unclog pores and stimulate exfoliation.

The platform has been clinically validated in acne through Dermata's XYNGARI Phase 3 START-1 trial, which met all three primary endpoints in moderate-to-severe acne, reinforcing its potential as a foundation for both prescription and OTC dermatology applications.

The company is currently working with a branding agency to announce the brand name and identity for its OTC dermatology portfolio, which will serve as the foundation for multiple consumer skincare products.

CEO Gerry Proehl highlighted that the acne kit launch is more than a single product release: "It is the beginning of a new growth chapter where we plan to leverage our deep dermatological know-how, scientific credibility, and innovative Spongilla technology to reach consumers directly."

The company intends to market the acne kit directly to consumers, estheticians, and dermatologists for in-office treatments.

The company's cash and cash equivalents were $4.7 million as of September 30, 2025, and are expected to be sufficient to fund operations in the second quarter of 2026.

DRMA closed Friday's trading session at $2.83, up 1.41%. Over the past 12 months, the stock has traded between $2.34 and $23.70.
