This commercial-stage biotech, specializing in respiratory and neurological diseases, expects a pivotal trial readout this quarter for its first-in-class therapy for neurogenic orthostatic hypotension in patients with multiple system atrophy.
Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a rare and severe neurodegenerative disorder characterized by rapid neuronal loss, leading to both autonomic and motor dysfunction. One of the hallmark features of MSA is autonomic failure, which often results in a significant drop in blood pressure upon standing, a condition known as neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (nOH). In the United States, approximately 40,000 patients are affected by MSA, with a median survival of around eight years. Up to 80% of MSA patients experience symptoms of nOH, which can severely impact quality of life.
