With traders returning to their desks following the holiday season, stocks have moved mostly higher during trading on Monday. The major averages have all moved to the upside, with the Dow reaching a new record intraday high.
Currently, the major averages are just off their highs of the session. The Dow is up 645.08 points or 1.3 percent at 49,027.47, the Nasdaq is up 209.56 points or 0.9 percent at 23,445.18 and the S&P 500 is up by 50.45 points or 0.7 percent at 6,908.92.

The European Central Bank became the first major central bank to move in response to the rising inflationary pressures in the backdrop of the conflict in the Middle East. In North America, the U.S. inflation and trade data as well as Canada’s central bank decision gained attention. The Chinese trade data was the main news in Asia.
