Sibanye-Stillwater (SBSW.OB,SBSW,SSW.JO) Friday said that it has signed a ten-year, flexible renewable energy power purchase agreement or PPA with energy trader Etana Energy to supply approximately 220 MW of renewable electricity to its South African operations from different solar and wind projects.
The precious metals producing company said that the additional capacity increases its renewable energy pipeline from 407 MW by end-2025 to around 627 MW, surpassing its 600 MW renewable energy target. The expanded portfolio also supports its decarbonisation strategy and is expected to deliver 20 percent-30 percent annual electricity cost savings compared with current Eskom tariffs.
The agreement is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 648,000 tCO2e, Sibanye Stillwater said in an official statement.
On the NYSE, SBSW ended Thursday's trading at $15.38, down $1.79 or 10.4 percent. In pre-market trading, the stock is up $0.65 or 4.2 percent at $16.04.
