Airtel Africa Plc (AAF.L), a British telecom and money services company, Wednesday said that Sunil Bharti Mittal will retire as Chair of the Board at the end of the Annual General Meeting in July 2026, having held the role since the company's listing in 2019.
The Board has appointed Gopal Vittal as Non-Executive Chair effective the same date. Vittal currently serves as Chair of the GSMA and has been a non-executive director of Airtel Africa since October 2024, the company said in an official statement.
Airtel Africa said that Shravin Bharti Mittal will assume the role of Deputy Chair. In this position, he will act as the significant shareholder representative and serve as the Board's liaison with the Airtel Money Board, of which he is a member, as well as with Airtel Africa's headquarters in Dubai, the company added.
As part of ongoing succession planning, Annika Poutiainen will also retire at the July AGM, marking over seven years of service as a Non-Executive Director.
On the LSE, AAF.L ended Tuesday's trading at 361.00 pence, up 1.80 percent.
