Bruce Springsteen joined John Densmore to perform a cover of The Doors' "Light My Fire" at the American Music Honors event held at Monmouth University over the weekend.
American Music Honors is an annual event organized by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center.
Springsteen joined the Doors drummer Densmore, Steve Van Zandt, and the Disciples of Soul house band to perform the song.
"There is no one in the room in danger of filling Jim Morrison's leather pants tonight," Springsteen joked after joining the band on stage. He reassured the audience that the bad "will do what we can" before delivering the soaring rendition.
"Light My Fire," written by guitarist Robby Krieger, was released in 1967. The song spent three weeks at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
Densmore said via The Asbury Park Press that his connection to Springsteen and his wife Patti Scialfa dates back nearly six decades.
"The Doors played in Asbury Park and guess who was in the audience — the Boss! Hey, if our music helped Bruce shout out his bride, I'm hip," he said. "It apparently worked. They've been together quite a while. You know, so long that maybe Patti's the Boss."
