Trulieve Cannabis Corp. (TCNNF) has officially filed applications with the Drug Enforcement Administration to register certain state-sanctioned medical marijuana operations using a new, faster track for approval.

This step comes on the heels of medical marijuana being reclassified to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act. This change allows eligible operators to apply for federal permissions to legally make, distribute, and sell cannabis products.

If companies submit their applications within 60 days, they might automatically get the green light unless they hear otherwise from the DEA.

Kim Rivers, the CEO, mentioned that this registration process is a significant achievement for both the company and its patients. It underscores Trulieve's role as a top player in the medical cannabis field, with over 200 dispensaries catering to patients across the U.S.

As a vertically integrated, multi-state cannabis company, Trulieve has established itself in important markets like Arizona, Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

The company believes that this regulatory change, along with its engagement in the DEA process, could enhance its ability to broaden access to medical cannabis while staying in line with the changing federal guidelines.

This development is a big step in the ongoing shift of the U.S. cannabis sector towards more federal oversight and its integration into the regulated healthcare landscape.
