Ahead of Friday's holiday for Labor Day, the South Korea stock market had ended the three-day winning streak in which it had jumped almost 220 points or 3.4 percent to a record closing high. The KOSPI now sits just beneath the 6,600-point although it may bounce higher again on Monday.
The global forecast for the Asian markets is cautiously optimistic on strength from the technology stocks and easing crude oil prices. The European and U.S. markets were mixed to higher and the Asian markets are likely to open in similar fashion.

In other news, several countries released the preliminary data for first quarter economic growth. In the U.S., comments by Fed Chair Jerome Powell were also in focus as his term ends this month.
