Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung over unauthorized use of her image on TV boxes.
The complaint, filed by Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP with the United States District Court in the Central District of California, alleges that Samsung "prominently featured" Dua Lipa's image and likeness on its television boxes in 2025-26 to sell TVs without permission or compensation. It names copyright infringement, trademark infringement and violation of Dua Lipa's right of publicity.
The suit states that Lipa became aware of Samsung using her image in June 2025 and at that time demanded the electronics company cease and desist.
The law firm claimed, "Samsung has refused to comply with Ms. Lipa's repeated demands that it cease and desist from infringing on her rights by the continued exploitation of the Infringing Products. Samsung's response has been dismissive and callous, and the Infringing Products remain on the market to this day, still being sold throughout the country in ongoing acts of willful infringement."
"Samsung's willful and deliberate misconduct has caused, and continues to cause, substantial, manifest, and irreparable harm to Ms. Lipa, while enriching Samsung at her expense," the complaint says. "By this lawsuit, Ms. Lipa seeks to bring Samsung's conduct to a stop and to obtain damages for Samsung's theft of her intellectual and personal identity assets."
Lipa is seeking at least $15 million in damages as well as profits connected to the sale of the televisions featuring the photo.
In a statement responding to the lawsuit, Samsung said the image of Lipa was used to "display content from third-party partners available on Samsung TVs."
"The image was used only after receiving explicit assurance from the content partner that permission had been secured, including for the retail boxes," Samsung said. "Given this assurance, we deny any allegations of intentional misuse."
Samsung also said it has "great respect" for Lipa and the intellectual property of all artists and is "open to a constructive resolution."
