LG Display Co., Ltd. (LPL,034220.KS) late Wednesday announced the beginning of mass production of the world's first 240Hz RGB Stripe OLED panel for monitors, targeting the premium segment.

The initial production will be in a 27-inch size, for which demand is highest. The company aims to gradually expand its lineup beyond 27-inch sizes.

LG Display will supply the panels to global monitor brands, the company said, without naming customers.

The OLED panel combines 160 pixels per inch or PPI resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate.

It uses an RGB Stripe structure, which arranges red, green and blue subpixels in a line to improve text clarity versus conventional OLED displays.

The panel features LG Display's Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology, allowing it to switch between 4K at 240Hz and Full HD at 480Hz, the South Korean company said.

"The world's first commercialization of 240Hz RGB Stripe OLED demonstrates the strength of OLED as a culmination of advanced display technologies," said Hyeon-woo Lee, head of LG Display's Large Display Business Unit.

LG Display added that it is pushing to shift the high-end monitor market from premium LCD to OLED.

On the KSE, shares of LG Display were gaining 0.71 percent, changing hands at 14,230.00 Korean won.
