FibroBiologics Reports Cartilage Repair In Preclinical Study Using Chondrocyte Spheroids

FibroBiologics, Inc. (FBLG), a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on fibroblast-based therapies, announced promising preclinical results showing cartilage repair in degenerative joints following a single injection of chondrocyte spheroids.

Degenerative joint disease is a leading cause of chronic pain and disability, with limited natural healing capacity in cartilage. Current treatments often progress to invasive surgical interventions such as joint replacement. The company's study demonstrated cartilage repair within four weeks in animal models, supporting the potential of fibroblast-spheroid-derived chondrocyte spheroids (FSdCS) as a regenerative therapy.

Key findings included:

-Rapid repair: Cartilage regeneration observed in vivo within four weeks of a single injection.

-Proof of concept: Data suggest FSdCS could repair damaged joints rather than only manage symptoms.

-Efficient manufacturing: Spheroids converted to chondrocyte spheroids in four days, faster than conventional cell therapies.

-Scalability and cost potential: Streamlined production may lower costs and improve accessibility.

CEO Pete O'Heeron noted that the findings point toward a future where biologic injections could replace joint replacement surgeries. Chief Scientific Officer Hamid Khoja added that the spheroids were not only surviving but actively contributing to tissue repair, underscoring the therapy's regenerative potential.

FibroBiologics, based in Houston, holds more than 270 patents across clinical pathways including orthopedics, wound healing, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, and cancer. The company emphasized that these results are preclinical and subject to further validation in clinical studies.

The company recently implemented a 1-for-20 reverse stock split on March 30, 2026.

FBLG closed Tuesday's trading at $1.14, up 11.76%. In pre-market trading the stock is at $1.15, up 1.18%
