Con-way Freight To Combine Regional Freight Companies

Wednesday, Con-way Freight Inc., a subsidiary of Con-Way Inc. (CNW) said it will combine its three regional operating companies into one centralized operation headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan in order to improve the customer experience and streamline its processes. The company has also announced management changes.

The company estimates to incur reorganization costs of $12 million to $16 million. The company expects to incur these costs during the remainder of 2007 and the first quarter of 2008.

Con-way said it will update its full-year 2007 financial forecast as appropriate to reflect the effect of the Con-way Freight reorganization and its pending acquisition of Contract Freighters Inc., which is expected to close during the third quarter.

Con-way Freight had operated under three units namely Con-way Freight-Central, Con-way Freight-Southern and Con-way Freight-Western.

Con-way recently appointed Labrie as Con-way Freight's new president. The company has also appointed David Miller as chief operating officer; Michael Yuenger as vice president of finance, Edwin Conaway as executive vice president of sales. Sean Devine joins as vice president of engineering, Manoj Chopra joins as vice president of pricing and Scott Engers as vice president of employee relations for Con-way Freight.

Miller becomes chief operating officer from his former position as president of Con-way Freight-Central.

CNW is currently trading at $48.92, up $1.24 or 2.60%.
