Electronic Data Systems Corp. (EDS) said that the Australian Taxation Office, or ATO, has extended its original US$1.8 billion outsourcing contract with EDS for another two years. The total contract value of the extension was not disclosed.

Under the agreement, EDS will continue to deliver information and communication technology, or ITC, infrastructure services to the ATO until 2010.

EDS Australia managing director Chris Mitchell said the extension was a significant endorsement of the strong business relationship developed between EDS and the ATO since 1999.

Mitchell said, "This is the third extension of our initial contract which only provided for two renewals, so this is a significant vote of confidence."

The ATO announced that it will continue outsourcing its ICT requirements after 2010 under a new strategy delivered in three tranches.
